  1. Situation

UF Health’s Mobile Stroke Treatment Unit brings the hospital to the patient: an ambulance with a CT scanner, dispatched alongside EMS when a stroke is suspected, so the team can diagnose on scene and start time-sensitive treatment on the way to the emergency department.

  2. Task

As the IT project manager, deliver everything the unit and its building needed to run on the UF Health network, working with the stroke unit’s clinical director, before the project end date.

  3. Action

    • Scoped and built out the truck’s IT: a Cradlepoint router on backup power, a wireless access point, a rugged laptop, and a Zebra wireless label printer.
    • Connected the unit to the UF Health network over a cellular VPN, so staff can register patients and work in Epic in the field.
    • Worked with application analysts to configure the unit and its devices for the enterprise and Epic.
    • Set up the building the unit brings patients to: office spaces, exam rooms, and AV for conferencing, with IT security and facilities.
    • Verified the network end to end and worked directly with the stroke unit’s clinical director.
  4. Result

    • Delivered all of the unit’s IT before the project end date.
    • The unit stays on the UF Health network in the field, so staff keep working on the go.
    • The unit’s building was set up with offices, exam rooms, and conferencing on a working network.
