Situation
TelyRx is an online pharmacy startup that was scaling fast (it went public in 2026 as TELYF). Customers shop on an Adobe Magento storefront, and prescribers approve their prescription requests in a provider admin portal. Both handle health and payment data, so HIPAA and PCI DSS apply.
Task
As the founding infrastructure engineer, build the cloud, DevOps, security, and internal platform foundations from zero.
Action
- Built and ran the storefront and the provider portal on AWS Linux (EC2, VPCs, IAM roles, and security groups), scaling them for traffic within HIPAA and PCI DSS requirements.
- Designed the infrastructure as code layer in AWS CloudFormation, so every environment is a reproducible, audit-ready stack under version control.
- Wrote CI/CD and cloud automation in Python, PowerShell, and Bash for production and staging.
- Installed Datadog on the servers: APM, logs, metrics, dashboards, anomaly detection, and custom alerts on compute metrics.
- Automated internal IT on Microsoft Azure and 365: onboarding and offboarding, SSO to other accounts, Intune MDM, and Entra ID with MFA, RBAC, and conditional access, plus Defender for endpoints.
- Hired and mentored a team of systems and software engineers.
Result
- No manual provisioning or configuration drift: environments are rebuilt from version-controlled templates.
- More consistent deployments and more efficient operations across production and staging.
- Proactive alerting and anomaly detection across production and staging.
- Built the company’s in-house engineering function.
