Automated SCCM-to-MECM migration
A PowerShell script that moved each PC from SCCM to MECM on its own: uninstall, reboot, wait for it to come back, install, reboot, and report, replacing about an hour of hands-on work per device.

3,000+
devices to move from SCCM to MECM
~1 hr
of hands-on work per device, automated
1 list
of PC names in, a completion report out
Situation
FDOT needed to move more than 3,000 PCs from SCCM to Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM). By hand, each one took about an hour: uninstall SCCM, restart to finish removing it, then install MECM. IT could only do a few at a time, because only so many devices could be remoted into at once.
Task
Automate the migration so it could run across the fleet without a technician remoting into each PC.
Action
- Wrote a PowerShell script that needed only a list of the PC names on the network.
- For each PC, it uninstalled SCCM, then rebooted the machine to finish the removal.
- It pinged the PC until it came back online a few minutes later, then installed MECM.
- It rebooted once more so every MECM component came up live and working.
- It logged each device as completed or not, so the team knew exactly which PCs needed follow-up.
Result
- Automated the SCCM-to-MECM migration for a fleet of 3,000+ devices.
- Replaced about an hour of hands-on work per device, with no technician remoting into each PC.
- A completion list showed which devices finished and which needed attention.
